I have a sad experience to tell. There was a couple who got baptized, and wanted to move forward in the paths of Service. They were taught thoroughly, and thought they were prepared. Even I thought they were prepared for the Aaronic covenants, although, maybe just the first one. We proceeded with the ceremony, dressed in our whites, it was a beautiful sight. We began early, and were in ceremony most of the day. The teachings were thorough with lots of examples, and the participants eagerly accepted the duties placed upon them, and clearly understood the results, should they turn away from the promises made to their Fathers.
After the ceremony was completed, I watched in horror as the dad proceeded to yell, argue, threaten, and scream at his children. I was in shock! The wife stood passively by, seemingly supporting the husband. They had only just accepted the most sacred covenants, and had already broken those covenants. I thought, perhaps with a little more time, they would practice and get better at keeping those obligations.
Months later, I met with that couple again. I asked how they were doing following the Path to which they had agreed. It was forgotten, and no longer of value to them. Their family structure had broken down, and the consequences of turning away from their most solemn obligations were undeniably apparent. I was so distraught, and felt shaking inside. It was a horrible experience!

I remember this family well, I am very fond of them and it also made me very sad to see them disregard the covenants they had just made. At first they seemed so focused on the gospel, but it was their worldly desires that led to their downfall. I remember why he was yelling at his children, it was because they would not be worldly enough, he wanted them to put the world before God, I was so stunned by this proclamation, I felt so badly for the children, but there was nothing we could do. I watched in sadness as the family continued to breakdown, as the parents alienated their child simply because the child did not want to follow the worldly path that the parents wanted for them.
I still pray for them, I still hope they will see their folly, and return to the covenants they have already made, and then continue in their progression on the path of the Saviour.

There was a village that was having difficulty with their posterity going astray.
I saw a great mountain. It was large and beautiful and touched the clouds. But at the base of it was rottenness. The Lord sent His servant there to inspect it and see if it could be fixed. The servant strove with the Lord for time, and struggled to fix the rotten base of the mountain. But the rottenness was too deep, and the mountain would not accept any attempt at repair and so began to fall. It began to crumble in great avalanches, then suddenly the entire mountain exploded, sending rock in all directions. Many people were scattered, some were hurt and killed from the fall of the mountain, but only a few would allow themselves to be saved.
If the children are not instructed in and taught correct doctrine, then the children will go astray. Unless the people rid themselves of the false doctrine and accept, with all their hearts, the doctrine of the Fathers, then their lines will stop and they will lose their children and their hope of exaltation.

I had a very interesting dream about this same village...

People in that village had been praying for so long for help from the Lord to keep their children from going astray, then when help came, it was not recognized because of hard hearts and wicked ambitions. Both the men and the women were offered the help, and most from both sides rejected the help. Unfortunately, by not accepting the answer to their prayers, the children are scattering fast, and the power of the king is diminishing. The very thing they were praying to avoid has come to pass, all because of pride and evil desires! The Lord gave the chance for salvation, for the salvation of future generations. Of course, the gathering hand of the Lord is stretched out still, striving to call all who will to safety!

Does it make any sense to pray for an experienced coach, then when the Lord sends one, to not listen to the coach or follow The Lord's proven method? I remember a young lad, with a great deal of talent, had been praying for a coach to train him so that he could win at his track meets. The Lord provided the boy with a chance encounter with a coach who had trained champions (nothing is left to chance with the Lord). The meeting went well, and the coach agreed to re-arrange his schedule and take on the lad. The boy started with a great deal of enthusiasm, but his enthusiasm quickly turned to begrudgement. The coach instructed the boy to actually follow the method and train hard, and to cross train in ways of which the boy could not see the benefit. So, it did not take long for the lad to leave his new coach. Because of his natural talent, the boy thought he was special, and that his way was the right way, after all, it had gotten him this far. But he did not realize that the coach trains all sorts of prodigies who all have tremendous amounts of natural talent. The young lad quit without even realizing the value of the opportunities that the Lord placed before him. The boy returned to his old training methods and is still struggling along, praying for further light and knowledge that will bring him the results he turned down. Does it make any sense to pray for an experienced coach, then when the Lord sends one, to not listen to the coach or follow the proven method? The method undeniably proven by the Son of God Himself. May we all have the wisdom to recognize and accept the help the Lord sends our way. .

There once was a man to whom the Lord sent an angel to minister and to offer a new life in a new land. The man packed his car with all his belongings and all his friends and tried to go the direction that the angel said. But the car was so stuffed full that it kept bottoming out, and kept getting stuck. His tires were soft from the massive weight, and the car just wouldn’t go anywhere, because he kept trying to bring all his old possessions with him, instead of just accepting the new house and new life that the Lord offered him.
When the Lord calls, are we willing to leave all our old traditions and false beliefs behind in exchange for eternal life?

It saddens me anytime I hear of a person who asks for a gift from God, then when the gift arrives, they are too afraid to accept it.
Not too long ago, I was talking with a man who related to me that he was having extreme difficulty in his business affairs, and he wanted God to intervene and send him a miracle. I got to know this man and he seemed very sincere in his desire to serve God, so I went to the Lord and petitioned on behalf of this man.
The Lord consented, and gave the gift. A huge, enormous gift!
The man was ecstatic! It was what he was praying for. He was so excited that he began telling everyone close to him about this great miracle that the Lord had given him.
But it was not to last. In his enthusiasm, he cast his pearls before swine and told his competitors about this great miracle that happened. And of course his competitors advised him to avoid the gift of God, to avoid it at all costs. Their rhetoric scared him so much that he listened to the advice of his competitors, and he was afraid to accept the gift of the Lord.
Needless to say his business deal failed horribly, all because he trusted in the arm of flesh, rather than trusting in God.
Turning down a gift from God is a great sin. Not to mention that it is very unkind and rude. Then, to have the audacity to ask for a second gift! Why should the Lord give another gift if a person turned down the first gift? How can they make a mockery of God? How can they treat Him and His gifts as things of naught?
If God sends you a gift, accept it!

I do realize this thread is full of sad stories, yet, I would like to show these things so that we can make good decisions. It is imperative that we understand the Saviour's pattern in following the Father. The Saviour is the one who was promised to come, to show us the way back into the presence of the Father. It is only through the method that the Saviour taught, that we can get back into the presence of the Father. The Father is always willing to help us out, to teach us, to share with us, to bring us Home.

There was an old farming community with many old, run-down farms. Most of the people who lived there were also old. Their farms were in poor repair, and their houses were dilapidated. The farms had very little livestock, but the animals that they did have were sickly and emaciated.
A young man bought one of the farms, he prayed, asking the Lord for help, and then went and got to work. He fenced it in, putting in corals around the outskirts of his new farm, and filled them with livestock. He put a house in the centre of his farm and planted hay and feed around it for his livestock. The transformation was astounding! From an old run-down farm where even animals could barely stay alive, to now a magnificent standard of love and prosperity. All because the young man could see that the old ways were not working, and decided instead to follow the Lord.
The other farmers in the neighbourhood were quite upset at the new young farmer, because he wouldn’t take any of their advice, and yet his farm was prospering. Instead they thought him vain, because he would only follow the Lord. Yet those old farmers could not get their farms to produce. The few animals that they had were sickly and emaciated. Even the old farmers themselves were sick and emaciated. The old farmers were always fighting among themselves, vying for who was best. They kept their own farming secrets always trying to have the advantage over their neighbour. They kept their own counsels and wouldn’t help each other. They didn’t want to share or contribute or help each other. Each believed that their method was best, because that is how their fathers did it before them.
As the old farmers saw the young man’s farm prosper, they soon began to talk to him and make friends. Eventually, the young man was able to teach them his methods. He taught them to share, and to help each other. And as they started to help their neighbour, they began to prosper. They interbred their livestock which then greatly improved their genetics. Their farms, once covered with darkness, now gleamed with light and colour. Their farms were now filled with animals, big healthy animals, well fed, well muscled. Everyone was happy.
The Spirit spoke and related that when they share, and one man helps another and consider each other and one man doesn’t rise above another and try to be better than another, then there is plenty, and plenty enough to go around.
.
This blessing was offered, and rejected, and unfortunately, the small farming community remains sickly, and many have died.

There is a man, who was having a great deal of difficulty with his neighbours, landlord, wife, children, friends, civil authorities, etc., who came asking the Lord for advice. The good Lord gave the man sound counsel, much the same as is found in the Sermon on the Mount. It was to be a salvation for him and his family.
The man was very excited to have received counsel of the Lord, and went on his way rejoicing at the great mission entrusted to him. Yet, this excitement was not to last.
A short time later, within days, I received a communique from my friend, telling me of all the difficulties through which he was enduring. I inquired of him, of how he was doing in his mission. He responded that he was doing well, but then quickly turned the conversation back to the complaints. He spoke in a manner ill befitting the great trust assigned to him. I again asked him of his focus on the mission assigned to him.
As the days continued, the messages became more fretful and aggressive. My friend continually stated that he was following the directions received from the Lord, yet, the fruit did not bear out that claim. After a few weeks, my friend had his children removed by Social Services. After questioning, my friend eventually admitted to not following the Sacred Path entrusted to him, treating his children badly, being aggressive with authorities, etc. It was apparent he did not follow the salvation offered him of the Lord.
Father loves my friend, and gave him those instructions to help him. Father wants his child to have all the blessings and happiness that any dad can have. But my friend thought he knew better! He told me that the Lord's way does not always work, and that he had to be harsh with people, or he would not get what he wanted out of them.
The wickedness of my friend went far deeper than a lack of understanding of the correct course of action for his life, but rather how to attain power and control over others, requiring others to live their lives in subservience to his whims, thereby removing agency, and attempting to remove the Glory of God, the agency of man. How close he comes to the doctrine of Lucifer, to remove the agency of man, taking glory unto himself.

I am not sure where to post this experience, so I will post it here with the other sad stories:
I had been approached by a man and was invited to his house to share some good Gospel discussion with him and his family. I met his children, and his wife. They were very pleasant people. Now, I do not know if the man was just nervous, or was trying to impress me, but when some of his children came to talk to him, the man would make fun of his own children. He would make fun of them, and tease them in front of me, until they became shy and would stay away. Then he turned his "joking" and teasing to his wife; and he teased her, right in front of company, until tears streamed down her cheeks. The wife was very respectful of the man, and just kept on smiling, taking his ill treatment with the grace of royalty.
The man spoke like any other mormon man, claiming to want to keep his family for eternity, to want to get to God; and gave excuses and justifications as to why he was behaving that way, such as: I was just teasing; it was just a joke; it is only meant in good natured ribbing, etc., etc.
I need to say: Hurting people, making fun of people, teasing people, making them cry, for a joke, is one of the worst evils! Why would anyone ever get enjoyment out of hurting anyone? It is insane. That person is in the gall of bitterness, and in dire need of repentance, and at risk of losing his immortal soul; and really has no hope of ever keeping his family for eternity, unless there is some very severe repentance!
