Psalm 1:1-3
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Philippians 2:14-15
14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

Who are the "ungodly sinners"?
Verse 16 tells us, the ungodly sinners are: Grumblers, discontented, proceeding according to their desires, and their mouths speaking pompous words, showing partiality to gain an advantage.
This description is a terrible blow, since these are very common sins:
Grumbler - How many of us have grumbled; how many of us still grumble???
Discontented - How many of us are discontented? Discontent preceeds grumbling.
Proceed according to their desires - How many of us proceed according to our desires? Are we so selfish as to care about what we get, or do we care only about what others need? Seeking our own desires preceeds discontentment as well.
Their mouths speaking pompous words - Do we speak vain and foolish things? Are we pompous? (Not, is the other guy pompous, but are we pompous?)
Showing partiality to gain advantage - This is another common trait these days, especially in the work-place. Do we show partiality? Do we seek to gain the advantage over another? Do we show partiality to gain any advantage?
These are some great questions!
Next, what do we do about it???
Taking the advice of having true charity, seeking not our own, but every person seeking to benefit others. What a high holy calling in the Love of God, our most holy faith!

I agree, completely. These are some great questions!
Questions we ask about ourselves, analyzing our own actions, words, thoughts and feelings; and not the other guy. See where we need work, where we need to improve.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. - Joshua 1:9
More direct commandments from God not to be grumpy. I see this scripture as more of a promise, where God is with you wherever you go because you are of good courage, and not afraid, and not dismayed.

Alma 41:10 10 Do not suppose, because it has been spoken concerning restoration, that ye shall be restored from sin to happiness. Behold, I say unto you, wickedness never was happiness. Alma 41:11 11 And now, my son, all men that are in a state of nature, or I would say, in a carnal state, are in the gall of bitterness and in the bonds of iniquity; they are without God in the world, and they have gone contrary to the nature of God; therefore, they are in a state contrary to the nature of happiness. Alma 41:12 12 And now behold, is the meaning of the word restoration to take a thing of a natural state and place it in an unnatural state, or to place it in a state opposite to its nature? Alma 41:13 13 O, my son, this is not the case; but the meaning of the word restoration is to bring back again evil for evil, or carnal for carnal, or devilish for devilish—good for that which is good; righteous for that which is righteous; just for that which is just; merciful for that which is merciful. Alma 41:14 14 Therefore, my son, see that you are merciful unto your brethren; deal justly, judge righteously, and do good continually; and if ye do all these things then shall ye receive your reward; yea, ye shall have mercy restored unto you again; ye shall have justice restored unto you again; ye shall have a righteous judgment restored unto you again; and ye shall have good rewarded unto you again.
Mormon 8:31 31 Yea, it shall come in a day when there shall be great pollutions upon the face of the earth; there shall be murders, and robbing, and lying, and deceivings, and whoredoms, and all manner of abominations; when there shall be many who will say, Do this, or do that, and it mattereth not, for the Lord will uphold such at the last day. But wo unto such for they are in the gall of bitterness and in the bonds of iniquity.
Mormon 9:14 14 And then cometh the judgment of the Holy One upon them; and then cometh the time that he that is filthy shall be filthy still; and he that is righteous shall be righteous still; he that is happy shall be happy still; and he that is unhappy shall be unhappy still.

It is important to know what brings joy what brings misery. No kidding! It is the most important thing, to know what brings joy, and what brings misery. Once we know what brings misery, then we know what to avoid. Once we know what brings joy, then we can make as much joy as we can!!!!
What a nice Father!

If misery, in one form or another, comes to all who get caught up in themselves and their pursuit of serving themselves... ...then joy, is the opposite, it comes to all who follow God's ways and serve God's family.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and thieves break through and steal; But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Misery: building up treasures that waste away upon the earth (where all is lost). Joy: building up treasures that are eternal in Heaven (where all remains).
This misery or joy is where your heart is.
