My notes for the meeting:
Hear God
What do I teach when I go on missions?
Going on missions Different approaches
Vanity of the western world that they are so good, that they can see God. They see themselves as so special that they would never be so low as to only hear the voice of God, but they belong on a much higher level, the level of seeing God!
But the Eastern world, the poor countries, do not think so highly of themselves that they could see God!
So, we offer to teach them to hear God, to hear the answers to their prayers. And their humility allows them to do just that!
They have a much more humble view of themselves, and therefore they are meek enough to follow the steps and get to hear Father.
You pray all the time, wouldn’t you like to hear the Spirit of God whisper the answer to you?
Hear the answer to prayers.
.
Five Steps
1. Believe that Father loves us, and wants to help us become the best we can be! Believe that He loves us so much that He wants to share with us the method He uses.
2. Learn and keep all the commandments, and apply them in all four areas of life.
Self-correct – look within and correct even within our minds and feelings.
3. Interact better and better applying all the virtues we can. Repent from the vices we do, and from the virtues we do not do, even within. Own up to our mistakes, even the interior ones, admit it, fix the damage, and recommit to following the virtues better.
4. Extreme devotion and diligence in fasting, prayer, study, and meditation. Always following every prompting by the Spirit immediately and accurately.
5. Be anxiously engaged in a good cause: printing scriptures and pamphlets, missionary work and teaching, taking care of the elderly and orphans, working tirelessly in online missions, etc.
.
A few tips about how to hear more clearly:
1. A Big Diet: Focus on a big diet of scriptures, prayer, callings, church, sacrament, hymns, missionary efforts.
2. Service: Incorporate a lot of service projects into your daily routine.
3. Spiritual Strength: Fast often, put your heart and soul into it. Make certain to self-evaluate all the time. Put a lot of effort, and time, and consistency, and an incredible attention to detail into your self-correction.
4. Motivation: Surround yourself with a lot of people who are on the same path as you. Make friends, and more importantly, be a friend to everyone who is striving in whatever capacity they can. Be a friend to everyone who is not only walking the path, but also to those who are only attempting to walk the path!
5. Consistency: Maintain a consistent scripture, prayer, and service routine, and memorize a lot of scripture.
6. Rest and Meditation: Ensure you get enough sleep, but not too much. Make sure you get a lot of meditation!
7. Avoid Bad Input: Bad movies, bad music, bad conversation; avoid grumpiness, anger, contention, taking offence or getting upset; any negative atmosphere; avoid them all.
8. Reduce Stress: High stress levels can lead to discouragement and depression, so practice stress-reduction techniques; again, a lot of breathing techniques, meditation, and exercise.
Remember, clearly hearing the voice of God takes time and dedication. We need to be patient and very persistent, and very consistent in our efforts, most especially in our service efforts!
